IP and DNS Architecture

Clients, in general, may request any number of IP addresses when they provide a justification plan that explains how the IP addresses will be used. Clients must use 60% of the requested IP addresses on the day of installation, with a one-week grace period to handle equipment problems. This means that if customer’s request 16 IP addresses, at least 9 of them must live, real, and able to be pinged one week after installation. This also means that inverse names must be assigned for each of these addresses. Customers will NOT be given blocks of addresses for administrative convenience. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by ColoMAX's NOC in advance. Clients must use 90% of their addresses before more will be issued. Temporary, or emergency addresses are available through ColoMAX's NOC. 80% of the assigned IP addresses (12 out of 16, for example) must be used within 3 months or the addresses will be withdrawn. To be compliant to ARIN, ISP clients are also required to submit reassignment information for the IP addresses that they have assigned to their clients. This can be done through SWIP or RWHOIS. The same website will also be used to verify utilization before issuing more IP addresses.

Customer addresses, in general, must follow the CIDR addressing scheme. Basically we follow RFC-2050, RFC-1519, and RFC-1918. Click on the RFCs for a complete description.

ColoMAX provides primary and secondary DNS services. DNS requests will be handled in five business days dependent on InterNIC.
